Osteopath in Eastbourne

Next year I will have been practising osteopathy in Eastbourne for 10 years. How times flies! I’ve met some lovely people along the way, made great contacts and moved 3 times. My patients continue to amaze me with their strength of character – bravery when things are horrible; tolerance when things are slowly changing and; of course, their trust.

There have been the usual accounts of injuries and niggles (often for no reason); pre- and post- op care; Pilates-based rehab and strengthening and some shared traumas stories. Even in over 20 years of practice I hear new things – new mishaps, descriptions or sensations.

How I treat

The way I practice has possibly evolved over the past decade too – hopefully for the better! I have done more training around trauma and neuroscience; more Pilates as it is such a perfect adjunct to osteopathic care; and more women’s health training as I support my female patients through transitional periods of their lives. It seems that the more you learn the more you attract those patients with those needs.

So, in a consultation we will take a deep dive into what might be contributing to your symptoms. Is it old injuries; repetitive work postures; stress or trauma responses; muscle weaknesses; adaptive gait patterns? Could it also be related to lifestyle choices; diet; hormones; related to your medical health? There is always so much to discuss and this can unfold over a couple of sessions.

Often the symptoms you arrive with are the product of so many things. It’s rarely as simple as it seems.

So is osteopathy for you?

Osteopaths are Allied Health Professionals (having the same standing as a physio, paramedic, speech therapist etc) and are regulated by the General Osteopathic Council . Osteopaths have to do at least 30 hours of Continued Professional Development each year to register – so you can be reassured that training is up-to-date.

Treatments are all hands on – to stretch, mobilise and releases areas of tension in the body. I will always discuss things that patients can do to help themselves – exercises, using ice packs or modifying work postures etc.
